During photo sessions, I spend most of my time looking for the next shot or finding the perfect spot to change the landscape setting to make the light work for what I'm imagining. Most often, other people don't see what I see. They imagine the photo differently than me. Many times, I show them the back of my camera, so they can understand what kind of shot I'm trying to achieve. Often, they are in awe to see what I see behind the lens. And, that's why they hired me!
This blog is about conveying what I see behind the lens. I often get asked how I capture certain images, whether it was a specific moment in time or catching that perfect look on a little kid’s face or making a photo look like it wasn’t taken with a distracting background. I don’t have an exact answer to this question other than I enjoy capturing what I call "candid moments". Those moments nobody thinks can be caught on camera or those moments nobody thinks to ask to have captured. I enjoy catching these to help tell the story – story of the wedding day, or story of the reason for the photo session, or capturing the moment in time of a look or a face that people fall in love with.
So how do I do it? I have no scientific method other than I immerse myself in the moment and click, click, click away. I want my clients to be able to go back to those images and reimagine that emotion all over again. That is what photography is all about!
